Across four residential districts totaling 35 kilometers, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has accomplished substantial internal road and street lighting improvements. To better serve people' needs and meet the increasing demands of traffic, the city is undertaking a larger effort to upgrade its infrastructure throughout.
Major Infrastructure Improvements by RTA
Over the course of 35 kilometers, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has finished extensive projects to improve the internal roads and street lights in four residential districts. All of these upgrades are part of a larger plan to upgrade the city's infrastructure so that it can handle more traffic and people can live better lives.
Al Qusais Industrial Areas
One of the major undertakings has been in the Al Qusais Industrial Areas 1 through 5. This project involved the construction of 32 new roads, covering a distance of 10 kilometers, and the installation of street lighting along 43,000 meters. As a result, the capacity of these roads has dramatically increased, tripling from 500 to 1,500 vehicles per hour in both directions. This 200% increase in vehicle capacity is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve transportation efficiency in the area.
Impressive achievements were emphasized by Mattar Al Tayer, the RTA's Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors. He made a point of saying that four major streets—Amman Street, Beirut Street, Aleppo Street, and Damascus Street—are much more accessible now because of the Al Qusais Industrial Zones' internal roadways project.
An estimated sixty thousand people have benefited from the improved connection, which has increased access to three hundred and twenty-two workshops, twenty-five apartment buildings, a plethora of stores, and educational institutions. The local economy benefits from these upgrades because they increase access to businesses and allow for an easier flow of people and products.
In addition to Al Qusais, the RTA has completed similar projects in Margham, Lahbab, Al Lisaili, and Hatta. In Margham, roadworks extending 5 kilometers along the Dubai-Al Ain Road near Skydive Dubai have been completed to serve approximately 1,100 residents. Lahbab has also seen road improvements over 4 kilometers and enhancements in street lighting along the Dubai-Hatta Road near the Lahbab Camel Racing Track, benefiting over 3,000 residents. These developments aim to better connect the residential community with the wider road network, facilitate smoother transportation, and improve safety.
In Al Lisaili, around 7 kilometers of road improvements have been completed, along with lighting works on existing roads in Seih Al Salam near the Last Exit and Al Qudra Lakes. These improvements cover more than 7 kilometers and benefit approximately 2,900 residents, enhancing the accessibility of the area's entrances and exits.
The comprehensive infrastructure upgrades by the RTA across these areas not only improve road capacity and lighting but also contribute to the overall development and modernization of Dubai's transport network. By addressing the needs of various communities, the RTA is ensuring that both residential and industrial areas are well-connected and adequately equipped to handle current and future traffic demands. These projects underscore the RTA's commitment to enhancing urban mobility and supporting the sustainable growth of Dubai.
