UAE residents use these temporary solutions to prevent rainwater from entering homes

zahraa ahmed - | Arab News

In light of the bad weather that many areas in the United Arab Emirates are experiencing, and the heavy rainfall that has led to damage to many facilities, homes, and cars.

The Eastern Province's residential districts, which were impacted by recent weather depressions, showed a spectacular turnout in adopting temporary solutions to prevent rainwater from entering houses. These solutions were designed to keep rainwater from entering homes.

Sandbags can be used as barriers on the exterior doors, or permanent aluminum barriers can be used to close the outlets that allow water to flow through into the building. These barriers can be regulated during periods of rainfall.

Unprecedented heavy rainfall

The intense rains, which the residents of the region regarded as being unprecedented, caused water to seep into their homes and caused financial losses as a consequence of damage to certain buildings. The residents also said that the storms caused them to lose money.

They emphasized the need of finding permanent answers to this problem, despite the fact that they had to resort to finding temporary solutions in order to keep rainwater from entering their homes. They stated that they did not anticipate encountering this obstacle while they were building their homes.

Use sandbags

"We had to act quickly to confront rainwater entering homes," said Mohammed Rashid Al Dhanhani, a citizen from the Al Hail neighborhood in the Emirate of Fujairah. He was one of the people whose homes were harmed by rainwater entering their homes.

We made use of sandbags, which proved to be an effective solution that not only prevented water from leaking out but also assisted us in preventing damage to our property.

He went on to say that the construction of the dwellings that they had constructed was not adequate to deal with the quantity of rain that had lately been experienced in the region, pointing out that this problem was physically impossible to overcome.

while it comes to preventing water leakage during heavy rains and extraordinary weather circumstances, it has become vital to find permanent solutions while building homes. This is because the weather conditions are continuously changing, unstable, and the strength of the rain varies.

Build a permanent barrier in front of the house

According to what he claimed, he sought the advice of a contracting business in order to construct a permanent barrier in front of the property in order to stop water from pouring into it.

For his part, one of the affected people, citizen Abdullah Muhammad Al Zaabi, from the city of Kalba in Sharjah, said that he suffered from large amounts of rainwater entering his house during the recent weather depressions, which led to major material damage, after the rainwater flooded most of the rooms of the house, causing... The furniture was damaged, even though some sandbags were placed in front of the outside door of the house.

House designs do not take on the challenges of rainwater leakage

It was agreed upon by Al Zaabi that the current designs of houses do not adequately take into account the difficulties associated with rainwater leakage. This highlights the necessity of rethinking the construction of houses and their infrastructure in order to guarantee that they will be resistant to rainwater in the future. Additionally, it is essential to find permanent solutions to protect homes rather than being content with temporary solutions.

Nevertheless, a resident of the Emirate of Fujairah named Maryam Saeed is of the opinion that temporary solutions, such as the utilization of sandbags, are adequate to address the issue of rainwater seeping into homes. This is particularly true in light of the fact that the most recent weather depressions were exceptional and may not be repeated in the region for a considerable amount of time in the future, she stated. She mentioned that she had constructed a temporary barrier and placed sandbags in front of her house in order to keep precipitation from entering. She also mentioned that she did not have any trouble acquiring these bags because construction firms sell them through enormous trucks that drive in front of the residences.

She also mentioned that she will put sandbags away once the weather depression has passed so that she may utilize them in the event that the region is once again subjected to any kind of weather depression.

Building barriers to prevent rainwater from entering homes

In turn, the architect Muhammad Abdullah claimed that a number of residents in the Emirate of Fujairah who were impacted by the recent weather depressions sought the guidance of certain engineers on the construction of barriers that would prevent rainwater from entering their homes. According to him, construction companies have already started their job, which involves the erection of such barriers in front of the outside doors of residences, particularly aluminum barriers that are regulated during the rainy season.
