UAE imposes fines up to Dh3m for violating CSI church, BAPS temple visit rules

asmaa - | Arab News

Opening to the public on May 5, the newly constructed CSI church, which is based on the concept of "wings of angels," has been the subject of much discussion recently.

The two sacred buildings are on 4.37 acres in Abu Mureikha, Abu Dhabi, just across from the BAPS Hindu Temple. The property was donated by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Numerous locals and visitors from all over the globe have been drawn to the majestic temple.

Those planning to attend these places of worship, which are not necessarily Muslim, would do well to familiarize themselves with the rules put in place by the government to promote public safety and understanding. Avoid engaging in any of the following behaviors when visiting any of these houses of worship in the UAE:

Policies established

  • The United Arab Emirates has enacted regulations that both tourists and those in charge of these holy sites must adhere to in order to prevent their exploitation.
  • Disrespect for the beliefs and practices of any religion or group is strictly forbidden.
  • You are strictly forbidden from using the home or space of worship for anything other than its designated function.
  • No one may use these facilities to disrupt public order, meddle in political or legal matters, or meddle in the country's internal or foreign affairs.
  • Any kind of extremism or violence, or incitement to sectarian, racial, religious, or ethnic strife, is completely forbidden.
  • It is strictly forbidden to engage in any actions that promote a particular religious group, sect, or ideology.
  • No one may engage in religious observances or rituals outside of the designated areas, and worship must take place entirely within these buildings.
  • There can be no ceremonies or rituals performed that might cause harm to the individual or to others. No action may be taken that might endanger the well-being, safety, or security of any individual, whether they are a tenant, customer, or employee.
  • Gatherings, seminars, conferences, or other events cannot be planned without the proper authorization from the appropriate authority.
  • Meetings and conferences with foreign parties, as well as membership in houses of worship, groups, associations, or other institutions headquartered outside of the nation, are strictly forbidden.
  • It is against the law to spend money for anything other than its designated use.
  • It is prohibited to solicit donations, permit donations to be solicited, or announce donations through any medium, whether audio, print, visual, social media, etc.
  • Individuals in charge of these institutions are strictly prohibited from maintaining any kind of connection, formal or informal, with any nation's diplomatic or official institutions. Additionally, they are not allowed to use their position to meddle in the domestic or international affairs of other nations.

Fines imposed

Violators of the aforementioned restrictions, as well as those outlined in the United Arab Emirates' Federal Law (9) of 2023 Relating to the Regulation of Houses of Worship for Non-Muslims, face severe punishments. Depending on the seriousness of the infraction, the substantial fines might vary from one hundred thousand to three million dirhams.
