UAE announces a new Speed limit on Al Ittihad, Al Wahda roads in Sharjah

asmaa - | Arab News

Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road in Sharjah will have a reduced speed restriction starting on May 25th, according to the Roads and Transportation Authority (RTA).

Implementation of a new speed limit

Motorists must now comply with a new speed limit to maintain the smooth flow of traffic. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Sharjah has announced a reduction in the speed limit on two major roads: Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road. This change, effective from Saturday, May 25, reduces the maximum allowable speed from 100 km/h to 80 km/h.

Benefits of Speed Limit Reduction

The RTA made this announcement through a social media post, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the new speed limits to facilitate better traffic management and safety. This adjustment is part of a broader effort to enhance road safety and reduce accidents caused by high speeds. By lowering the speed limit, the authorities aim to create a more controlled and predictable driving environment, which is crucial for the safety of all road users.

Drivers are encouraged to follow these new regulations diligently. Compliance with the reduced speed limits will not only help in maintaining a smoother flow of traffic but also contribute to the overall safety on these busy roads. The decision to lower the speed limit is based on careful analysis and consideration of traffic patterns and safety data. It is a proactive measure designed to mitigate potential hazards and improve the driving experience for everyone.

The reduction in speed limit is expected to bring multiple benefits. Firstly, it will likely reduce the number of traffic accidents. High speeds are a major factor in the severity and frequency of road accidents. By lowering the speed, the impact of collisions can be significantly reduced, leading to fewer injuries and fatalities. Additionally, lower speeds can improve reaction times for drivers, giving them more time to respond to sudden changes or unexpected obstacles on the road.

Moreover, the new speed limit is anticipated to improve traffic flow. When vehicles travel at more uniform speeds, it reduces instances of abrupt braking and acceleration, which can cause traffic jams and slowdowns. A consistent speed helps in maintaining a steady flow of vehicles, reducing congestion, and improving travel times during peak hours.

Motorists are reminded that the new speed limits will be enforced strictly. Traffic enforcement authorities will monitor compliance through various means, including speed cameras and on-ground patrols. Penalties for speeding will be applied to ensure that drivers adhere to the new regulations. This enforcement is essential to achieving the intended benefits of the speed reduction.

The RTA’s decision underscores the importance of road safety and the role of responsible driving in achieving it. Drivers are urged to be mindful of the new speed limits and adjust their driving habits accordingly. Public awareness campaigns and signage will support this transition, ensuring that all motorists are informed about the changes.

The reduction of the speed limit on Al Ittihad Road and Al Wahda Road from 100 km/h to 80 km/h, effective May 25, is a significant step towards enhancing road safety and improving traffic flow in Sharjah. The Roads and Transport Authority's initiative calls for motorists to adhere strictly to these new regulations. By doing so, they will contribute to a safer and more efficient road environment for all users. The success of this initiative depends on the collective effort of all drivers to comply with the new speed limits and prioritize safety on the roads.
