Dubai Customs arrest woman with 4.25kg of marijuana hidden in car engine filter

asmaa - | Arab News

Dubai Customs officials recently thwarted an attempt by a female African traveler to smuggle 4.25 kilograms of marijuana through Dubai Airports.

Smugglers cleverly concealed the cannabis within compartments of a car engine air filter, demonstrating the lengths they will go to evade detection.

Customs inspectors noticed irregularities in the traveler's luggage, which aroused their suspicions. Their keen attention to detail led to the discovery of hidden compartments, prompting a thorough search that uncovered the illicit substance.

The Dubai Police General Directorate for Narcotics Control received both the traveler and the confiscated marijuana after the seizure for further legal proceedings. This swift action underscores the commitment of Dubai authorities to combating the illicit drug trade and protecting the community from its harmful effects.

Khaled Ahmed, Acting Director of the Passenger Operations Department, reiterated the importance of vigilance in safeguarding against prohibited substances. He emphasized that the interception was made during a routine inspection, highlighting the proactive efforts of Dubai Customs to detect and intercept illicit activities.

Ahmed emphasized the collaborative nature of the operation, noting that it was the result of effective communication and coordination among customs officers. The alertness of a Dubai Customs officer who noticed suspicious luggage from a flight arriving from an African country set the operation in motion. This officer promptly alerted customs officials at the inspection point near the departure gate, leading to the interception and subsequent seizure of the narcotics.

The successful interception serves as a reminder of the constant vigilance required to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from its harmful consequences. Dubai Customs remains committed to its mission of ensuring the safety and security of travelers and residents alike and will continue to employ rigorous measures to detect and deter illicit activities within its jurisdiction.
