Abu Dhabi Mandates Transfer of Pest Control Services for Public Health

asmaa - | Arab News

In Abu Dhabi, a significant shift in public health pest control services is underway, reflective of the government's unwavering commitment to the well-being of its citizens.

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre announcement

Under this transition, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) has assumed responsibility for processing service requests related to the monitoring and management of pests in various settings, including residences, public areas, and facilities.

Pest control services, previously overseen by the Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer), are now under ADPHC's purview, while Tadweer continues to handle waste management services. This strategic realignment underscores the government's proactive approach to safeguarding public health and safety.

Expanded Scope of Pest Control Services

Individuals, farms, and homeowners seeking pest control services can easily access assistance by contacting the Government Contact Center at 800555 or submitting requests through the TAMM platform. This streamlined process ensures prompt attention to pest-related concerns, promoting a swift and effective response to mitigate potential health risks.

The scope of pest control services extends beyond mere nuisance management, encompassing the control of disease-carrying pests such as mosquitoes, flies, rodents, ticks, and others. Additionally, measures are in place to address potentially dangerous pests like snakes, scorpions, spiders, and wasps. By targeting these vectors of disease transmission, ADPHC aims to minimize public health risks and enhance overall well-being.

Dr. Ahmed AlKhazraji, Acting Director-General of ADPHC, reaffirms the center's unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of public health. Through the deployment of specialized teams equipped with advanced techniques and equipment, ADPHC ensures rigorous monitoring and control of public health pests and disease vectors. This dedication is underscored by a commitment to international best practices and ongoing efforts to enhance professional competency through upskilling initiatives.

Collaboration with strategic partners extends beyond operational excellence to encompass community engagement and awareness campaigns. By educating the public on the importance of pest control and preventive measures, ADPHC seeks to foster a culture of responsibility and active participation in safeguarding public health. These efforts are complemented by initiatives to enhance scientific research on disease vectors, driving innovation in control methods and materials.

Dr. Farida Al Hosani, Executive Director of Infectious Diseases at ADPHC, emphasizes the center's comprehensive approach to pest management. In addition to addressing reports of pest proliferation, ADPHC oversees permitting processes for pest control activities and regulates the distribution and usage of pesticides. By prioritizing safety and adherence to established protocols, ADPHC ensures that pest control efforts are conducted with the utmost consideration for environmental and community well-being.

Integral to ADPHC's mandate is the integration of data and procedures related to disease surveillance and vector control. By leveraging insights into disease transmission patterns, ADPHC can implement targeted control measures tailored to specific geographical areas. This data-driven approach enhances the effectiveness of pest control initiatives, minimizing the risk of infectious disease transmission and promoting a healthier community.

The transition of public health pest control services to ADPHC marks a significant milestone in Abu Dhabi's commitment to protecting public health. Through proactive measures, community engagement, and scientific innovation, ADPHC aims to create a safer and healthier environment for all residents, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's reputation as a global leader in public health management.
