Australia announces the imposition of additional amounts on international student visa applications

zahraa ahmed - | World News

The government in Australia announced the imposition of additional sums of money as part of the requirements for obtaining a visa for international students in Australia, as part of the Australian government’s recent decisions that aim to reduce the number of foreign immigrants entering the country, and oblige foreign students in Australia to provide financial proof of the minimum wage in Australia

New visa requirements for volunteers in Australia

For its part, the government's Department of Home Affairs has been looking for a long time to raise the necessary financial resources from applicants for Student Notice in Australia, which was actually achieved this month.

It is decided that the student applying for student privacy in Australia will be required to prove the financial ability to balance 75% of the national wage limit in Australia.

Improving living conditions for international students

Through this decision, the Australian government aims to improve the living conditions of international students in Australia, to ensure the availability of financial support for them, which includes the following:

  • Imposing financial fees on the applicant amounting to 29,710 Australian dollars.
  • Imposition of financial sums on the spouse or de facto partner of the main applicant (does not apply to guardian applicant): AUD 10,394.
  • The annual study financial costs are approximately A$4,449.
  • Dependent child is charged: A$4,449.

Reduce risks and protect students

It is worth noting that the Australian government announced these recent changes and amendments as part of its effort to protect students from financial pressures and having to work more than necessary, which exposes them to the risk of exploitation in the work environment.

The Australian government also confirms that the visa requirements are linked to a percentage of the minimum wage, through which it aims to continuously support international students and ensure that they enjoy a successful and safe educational experience.

Family financial requirements

The Australian Government also imposes financial requirements for the families of international international students in Australia, which are as follows:

In the absence of a family member, the personal annual income must not be less than: 87,856 Australian dollars.

It also requires that the personal annual income, if there is a family member, not be less than 102,500 Australian dollars.

Strengthening educational infrastructure

The Australian government stated that these latest measures seek to strengthen the educational infrastructure and provide appropriate support to students who choose Australia as a study destination, which reflects the government's commitment to ensuring the quality of life for international students.

Reducing the duration of the temporary postgraduate visa in Australia

It is worth noting that the Australian government had previously announced that the temporary postgraduate visa would be reduced for one year, starting in the middle of this year, 2024.

For its part, the government has also decided to lower the eligibility age from 50 to 35. Graduates studying rare skills credentials cannot now renew their visas. They must apply for a required skills visa or a permanent skills visa.

The government explained that it seeks, through its decisions during the last period, to meet the country’s skills needs while restructuring permanent skills migration to achieve long-term progress, improve the quality of education for international students, and solve the problem of exploitation in the workplace and abuse of the visa system.

The number of immigrants in Australia has increased dramatically

According to a recent opinion poll conducted by the Sydney Morning Newspaper, 62% of Australian people agree that the number of immigrants in Australia has increased significantly in recent years.

It is also stated that the Australian government provided immigration to Australia in order to expedite the entry of skilled workers from all over the world while also allowing them to obtain permanent residence, but the Australian labor market is currently regarded as one of the most stringent in the world.

It is also noteworthy that Home Affairs Minister Claire O'Neill had previously announced in a statement before the official release of the government's new immigration strategy that the department is working around the clock to achieve the best balance in the Australian immigration system.
