UAE unveils Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr 2024 expected dates

asmaa - | Arab News

The commencement of the holy month of Ramadan and the subsequent celebration of Eid al-Fitr in the United Arab Emirates for the year 2024 have been anticipated by the Emirates Astronomy Society.

Utilizing astronomical calculations and the Islamic Hijri calendar, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the leader of the Board of Directors at the Emirates Astronomy Society, has employed his expertise to forecast that the month of Rabi Al Awwal is anticipated to commence on September 16th.

Anticipated Start of Ramadan:

According to astronomical predictions, the holy month of Ramadan is expected to commence in the second week of March 2024. The potential date for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr falls on April 10th. The actual dates will be determined by the sighting of the crescent moon, a fundamental element of the Islamic Hijri calendar. The lunar sightings will establish whether an Islamic month is 29 or 30 days old, aligning with the Gregorian calendar.

Observance of Ramadan:

During Ramadan, Muslims worldwide observe a dawn-to-dusk fast, abstaining from food and drink. This holiest month commemorates the revelation of the Holy Quran. Muslims focus on self-control, gratitude, increased prayer, and reading the Quran. The day begins with the pre-dawn Fajr prayer and ends with the evening Maghrib prayer, marking the daily fasting cycle.

Spiritual atmosphere in the UAE:

Throughout Ramadan, the UAE embraces a spiritual atmosphere. Adjustments in school and office schedules accommodate the fasting routine of Muslims. The emphasis on prayer, reflection, and acts of kindness contributes to a sense of community and shared devotion during this sacred period.

Celebration of Eid al-Fitr:

On the first day of Shawwal, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr is held to mark the conclusion of Ramadan. On this pleasant day, people give alms (Zakat Al Fitr), pray differently first thing in the morning, feast more than usual, and share sweets with one another. Muslims gather to give thanks, celebrate togetherness, and spread kindness throughout this holy season.

As Muslims eagerly await the start of Ramadan, the anticipated dates provide a framework for spiritual preparation and anticipation of the upcoming celebrations. The UAE, in line with Islamic traditions, fosters an environment that encourages reflection, unity, and acts of kindness during this sacred time.
