UAE suspends Dh7 bus-on-demand service until further notice in Ajman

asmaa - | Arab News

From June 4 until further notice, the bus-on-demand (BOD) service in Ajman has been halted, according to an announcement made by officials on Tuesday.

Suspension Announcement

Ajman's bus-on-demand (BOD) service has been suspended starting June 4, according to Tuesday's announcement by authorities. This suspension is temporary and will continue until further notice.

Operating hours and benefits

The BOD service, operated by the Ajman Transport Authority, was designed to provide a flexible and efficient transportation solution for commuters. It offered minibus services from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., reducing waiting times and alleviating traffic congestion in the city. The service was particularly popular because it utilized a mobile app that allowed passengers to book seats conveniently. Upon booking, the app would instantly determine the most efficient route based on the service requests received.

Using the app, commuters would specify their current location and desired destination. The AI-powered app would then direct them to the nearest point where they could board the bus. This smart routing feature made the BOD service highly efficient and user-friendly.

The cost for using the BOD service was Dh7 per passenger, payable through the app. For group bookings, the service charges Dh4 for each additional person, with a maximum of four people per booking. This pricing model made it affordable and attractive for both solo travelers and groups.

The suspension of the BOD service is temporary, but no specific date for its resumption has been provided. The Ajman Transport Authority has expressed gratitude for the public's understanding and cooperation during this period. They have not disclosed the reasons behind the suspension, leaving commuters to seek alternative transportation options.

The BOD service was a significant step towards modernizing public transportation in Ajman. It not only provided a convenient travel option for residents but also contributed to reducing traffic congestion. The integration of AI technology in determining routes and minimizing waiting times demonstrated the potential for innovative solutions in urban transportation.

Despite the suspension, the initiative remains a noteworthy example of how technology can be leveraged to improve public transport services. The use of an app-based booking system, combined with real-time route optimization, represented a forward-thinking approach to meeting the transportation needs of a growing city.

In the meantime, commuters will need to rely on traditional forms of transportation or other ride-hailing services. The suspension highlights the challenges that can arise in maintaining such innovative services and the importance of finding sustainable solutions to ensure their continuity.

The Ajman Transport Authority's decision to temporarily halt the BOD service underscores the dynamic nature of urban transportation planning. It also serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for adaptability and resilience in the face of operational challenges. As the city waits for the service to resume, the experience gained from the BOD service's initial run could inform future enhancements and more robust implementation strategies.

While the suspension of Ajman's bus-on-demand service is a setback for commuters, it also presents an opportunity for reflection and improvement. The lessons learned from this experience could pave the way for more resilient and efficient public transportation solutions in the future. The authorities’ acknowledgment of public cooperation suggests a commitment to re-evaluating and potentially enhancing the service to better meet the needs of the community when it resumes.
