Saudi Arabia: Eid Al Fitr first date revealed as Crescent Moon Remains Unseen

In Saudi Arabia, both public and private sector employees are set to enjoy a substantial holiday period in celebration of the forthcoming Eid al-Fitr. This joyous occasion, marking the end of Ramadan, holds significant cultural and religious importance in the kingdom.

The Saudi authorities have officially designated Wednesday, April 10, as the commencement of Eid al-Fitr festivities. This decision was made following the non-sighting of the crescent moon on Monday evening, signaling the completion of the 30-day Ramadan period. Prior to this, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had urged citizens to look for the crescent moon on April 8, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan in the Gregorian calendar.

Public and private sector workers alike will have a four-day break starting Monday, April 8, in observance of Eid Al Fitr, which begins on Ramadan 29, 1445 in the Islamic calendar, as announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. Saudi citizens will enjoy a lengthy six-day vacation as Friday and Saturday are already recognized as official weekends in the kingdom. On April 14, which is a Sunday, regular business activities should start up again.

In contrast, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will observe a longer holiday period for Eid al-Fitr. Both public and private sector employees in the UAE will benefit from a nine-day hiatus, taking advantage of the additional weekend days as Saturday and Sunday are officially recognized as weekends. The holiday will commence on Monday, April 8, and extend until Sunday, April 14, after which regular working hours will resume on Monday, April 15.

These extended holiday periods not only provide an opportunity for individuals to engage in festive celebrations and spend quality time with family and loved ones but also contribute to the cultural fabric and social cohesion of both nations.
